Schools and churches can save money by rebinding the worn textbooks and hymnals instead of purchasing new ones. Books rebound at Mechling Bookbindery last as much as four times longer than the original bindings! This is possible because of the extra steps we take in our binding process, much of which is done by hand, and because of the high quality of materials we use.
All books are resewn with thread (not stapled) and glued twice. For additional strength we apply a strong cloth back-liner that wraps around the spine and connects both cover boards. The new covers are made with heavy-weight 100 point laminated boards with full color printed Kivar and film laminated for extra protection. Kivar is a heavy, tough material made from paper fibers and latex. It is extremely hard to tear, unlike most book covers that are made from plain paper. We believe that a quality binding is worth the added cost.
